Today’s topic: What’s the best book you read in August?
With Real World Cape Cod at the start of the month, I expected to read more books than I did because who doesn’t love reading while baking on the sand? Alas, it was also Camp NaNoWriMo, so my reading suffered a bit. This month I only read six books.
Six is impressive anyway.

Out of the six, Kody Keplinger’s sophomore novel, SHUT OUT* was the best by far.
Blurb from Goodreads:
Most high school sports teams have rivalries with other schools. At Hamilton High, it’s a civil war: the football team versus the soccer team. And for her part, Lissa is sick of it. Her quarterback boyfriend, Randy, is always ditching her to go pick a fight with the soccer team or to prank their locker room. And on three separate occasions Randy’s car has been egged while he and Lissa were inside, making out. She is done competing with a bunch of sweaty boys for her own boyfriend’s attention.
Lissa decides to end the rivalry once and for all: she and the other players’ girlfriends go on a hookup strike. The boys won’t get any action from them until the football and soccer teams make peace. What they don’t count on is a new sort of rivalry: an impossible girls-against-boys showdown that hinges on who will cave to their libidos first. And Lissa never sees her own sexual tension with the leader of the boys, Cash Sterling, coming.
What I Liked About It: The modern bent on Lysistrata was executed perfectly. On a geeky note, Lysistrata is one of my favorite Greek plays. The characters were three-dimensional and believable. Oh, and Cash.
What You Should Know: About three weeks later and I’m still thinking about everything regarding the book: the characters, the plot, the subplots. This was a much stronger book than The DUFF. So if you liked The DUFF, definitely pick up SHUT OUT.

I love the premise of SHUT OUT. I can't wait to get my hands on it. You have a great list there. The only one I've read is ENDLESS SUMMER, though most of the others are on my TBR list.
I won an autographed copy of SUPERNATURALLY (woo hoo!) and just got it in the mail the other day! PARANORMALCY was one of the 2 books I picked for my August favs – so I can't wait to read the sequel.
I also just bought SHUT OUT – loved THE DUFF, so I'm definitely looking forward to this one!

Haven't read The Duff yet (though it's been on my radar screen for a long time). I like the premise behind Shut Out too. Going to have to read them both … eventually … *glares at entirely too long book queue*
That's a great review–makes me want to check her book out and it was never one I'd considered before.

I also read Supernaturally! I really enjoyed how it didn't have that second novel feel of just building up stuff for the third book.

Yes, I loved Shut Out, more than The DUFF. If I hadn't read Beauty Queens this month, it might have nabbed number one for me.

I just read an arc of 'A Monster Calls' and it was AMAZING. You have to get your hands on it when it comes out later this month. It's by Patrick Ness.

I'm impressed by writers who have read so many books. I'm struggling to get through two a month. Right now I'm in the middle of The Tiger's Wife. Have to finish by Tues so I can say something semi-intelligent at my book club.
