What Would You Adapt?

/ February 23, 2011/ books, movies, Road Trip Wednesday/ 26 comments

Every Wednesday, YA Highway asks their readership a simple question to answer on your blog. Once you answer, you link your blog in the comments for other readers to hop on board. This is Road Trip Wednesday.

The ladies at YA Highway changed it up this week. Today we ask the questions and you give the answers in the comments. Exciting, right? RIGHT!

So, today’s question: What book do you want to see as a movie or TV series?

Since my Dark Tower prayers have been answered, I get to pick something else. And since it’s my blog, I get to pick two.

Book to TV Series
Megan McCafferty’s Sloppy Firsts. I think it would work best on the CW.

Book to Movie
Stephen King’s Eyes of the Dragon made as an anime.

Did you like this question? Then hop over to YA Highway and see what the other road trippers are saying!

Don’t forget to enter our race to 150 contest! (And spread the word for extra entries.)

  1. Oh, I'd love to see a PARANORMALCY movie!

  2. This is such a fun question! I'd like to see Before I Fall as a movie. And Graceling.

I originally thought of The Book Thief because it's so different. But I don't think I'd want to ruin how I feel about that book by seeing the movie. Inevitably, it wouldn't live up to the book.

  3. THE GIVER.
    also
    ENDER'S GAME.

whyyyy aren't those movies yet? although, with the latter especially, I'm glad they've been delayed — EG needs to be the most awesome Avatar-esque CGI/3D available. as long as that's not all it is — they need to keep the heart of the story & characters above all else 🙂

  4. Book to movie: The Replacement.

Book to TV series: I'd love to see a tv series based on the Newford books/stories by Charles De Lint.

  5. Holly, I do believe PARANORMALCY has been optioned! So hopefully we will see Evie on the big screen in a few years!

I'd love to see THE SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING PANTS as a TV series.

  6. PARANORMALCY and SHIVER would both by great, which is why they've both already been optioned. I'd like to see a really good contemporary YA book made into a movie. It seems like only the paranormal books make it into films. So my vote is going to be for THE SKY IS EVERYWHERE.

  8. I'd like the warriors cat series (lol) to be made into a tv series.. maybe a movie series would be better lol. REAL cats though. Real. Cats.

  9. Hmm, that's tough. I agree with Kirsten, THE GIVER would be amazing as a movie. As for TV series, I think UNWIND or The Gone Series could be turned into something really cool (Gone is actually being considered). They're both scifi/paranormal, but they've got good potential for TV, I think. Great question!

  10. Cool question! I'd like to see FEED as a TV series, and THE SKY IS EVERYWHERE as a movie.

  11. Sloppy First would make a great TV show.

I think Across the Universe would make a great movie. Or The Duff would be a good CW show.

  12. GREAT Question!!!

Book to TV Show – House of Night

Book to Movie – Paper Towns by John Green

  13. Honestly? SOOOO many YA books would make good movies/tv shows! I'm intrigued by the idea of The Sky is Everywhere as a movie… Would either be great, or terrible and ruin everything.

How about Anna and the French Kiss?? I know I'm obsessed with that book lately, but it really wouldn't be difficult to make that into a really fun rom-com type movie that I'd watch a gazillion times.

  14. KT – yes, Unwind would be great! Or The Chronicles of the Imaginarium Geographica; it'd take soooo long to film, but would be FANTASTICALABULOUS. Yes I just invented a new word.
For movie – ah, um, hmm. AGH I can't decide. Sorry. I'll move out of the way so others can share now.

  15. Anything by Tamora Pierce! I've been waiting for Wild Magic to be turned into a movie since I was ten.

  16. Oh, I think the UGLIES series would be a fantastic television show – spreading the story out over many hours and developing the tension and characters and threats. It would be awesome.

    Fun question!

  17. Oooh, these are all good ones. Almost ANY YA movie would be awesome. I think Hollywood needs to focus on them, forget all that adult BS.

  18. Dragonfly in Amber – hey my kid read it so it counts – Lol

Dragonlance series – want to see dear Raistlin.

Ok something without the word dragon in it……
    hang on – thinking

Hans Bemmann's The Stone and the Flute

  19. GREAT question! I think I'd have to say Anna and the French Kiss–in the right hands, it may actually be good as a TV show. I could see that on maybe The CW. 🙂

  20. I'd like to see the final Inkheart books in film. As well as some more Terry Pratchetts, in the style of Hogfather and The Light Fantastic. Oh, and I'd love to see the City of Bones series as a movie.

  21. Divergent will make a killer movie.

  22. I'm jumping on The Sky is Everywhere bandwagon. It would be amazing to see Lennie on the big screen.

  23. Oooo, fun questions! I think Eoin Colfer's AIRMAN would make a great movie. Come to think of it, his ARTEMIS FOWL series would make a fun tv show, too. And with the right CGI, Obert Skye's LEVEN THUMPS and PILLAGE series (Serieses? Seriesi? how to pluralize series? Seriesen…?) would be really great movies, too.

  24. can I say all of them? Well, most of them. I'm going to second Ender's Game, The Giver, Paranormalcy, Graceling, Uglies and I'm excited about the Mortal Instruments series movie(s).

I'm going to add Maximum Ride and I really wish the Dresden Files had gotten more love.

  25. I'm with Jess, I'd love to see the ARTEMIS FOWL series. And I'd loooove to see Susan Cooper's THE DARK IS RISING sequence. I know they made a movie, but it totally doesn't coun. A really good adaption.

  26. The Young Bond series done true to the books and the era would make some fantastic films ^_^
