I started the week off with bang, clearing out the small goals so I could focus on the bigger one. Then, I dragged my feet. A lot.
How I Did Last Week
Continue SCENES FROM LAST NIGHT revisions.DONE, but still in progress.Send out 3 queries.DONEBeta a friend’s picture book.DONEGet up at 5 AM Monday-Friday so I can walk to work before it gets way too hot.DONE. Well, sort of. I was up 5.10 every day. Even Saturday.- Walk every day, even if it’s to Dunkin and back. Only 6 days, not bad.
Add voice exercises to Scrivener template.DONE- Stretch goal–>Get at least halfway through final workshop of PLANNING YOUR NOVEL. Ha ha. No. Because I was dragging my feet so much on revising SFLN.
My Goal(s) For This Week

- Get up at 5 AM Tuesday-Friday so I can walk to work before it gets way too hot.
- Walk every day (except today).
- Stretch goal–>Get at least halfway through final workshop of PLANNING YOUR NOVEL

Overcoming revision fear. Whenever I start revising I almost become paralyzed by the idea that revising could make my WIP worse.

This revision process. Normally I grumble and swear–and I’m still doing that–but the way I have this revision set up is interesting. Because of the timeline I’m dealing with, I actually have a grid. See?

Revising is so much fun, isn't it? We used to like drafting but now we've realized that revising is the REAL fun in this whole writing shit. That timeline & revision grid looks realllly serious, btw. Good job with all the walking and querying, too. You're doing your thing, girl! Good luck this week!!
I was having so many problems figuring out *how* to start this revision, that the grid is the only thing that made sense. I spent most of last week working on it. I'm hoping it will help me get this revision done in record time.

I guess that's why you save different versions of your WiP. That way you can always undo what you don't like, I guess. Happy to hear that your revisions are going well, though! Sounds like you had a very productive week all around. Hope this is another great week ahead! 😀
Revisions can be so freaking scary, can't they? I always worry that once I start ripping things apart, everything will unravel and I won't be able to put it all back together again. Somehow it always manages to work out though. Looks like you're being organized about it with that grid you've made, so I think you'll do just fine! Good luck with your goals this week!

I have timelines in just about every journal for every WiP. It helps me so much! And it sounds like you CRUSHED your goals this week! Go you! And the getting up at 5 to walk? I am in awe. Hope you have another great week!

Your grid is awesome! I always think my revisions would go much more smoothly if I did something like that instead of scribbling notes in fifty different places.

This is true. Yet, at least 3 times yesterday I freaked out about making some.huge mistake and in turn have to do more work. Ugh, so hard.
You nailed it on the head. And then the work to fix it again could also go wrong. That's only happened once though and that novel is trunked. It will not happen to this novel.
I'm exhausted by prime time but I have been doing the 5 AM thing without complaint. It's going to be hot and gross today, which means I'll be at the day job early. Looks like I'll revise in a cube and AC today. 🙂
This is not my normal process. I'm a scribble and sticky note girl. This is a weird one for me.
If left to my own devices, I'd probably never leave the house so I guess the day job is good for something. 😉
Revising is tons of work, but what comes out in the end is always worth it. Love that graphic! I'll have to give that a try next time.
Now that I'm 75% of the way done with revision, I'm thinking the revision grid will be my BFF for all projects going forward.
